Contract placed for next stage of Libyan network.

On January 22 China Railway Construction Corp announced it had
signed a US$805m contract to build a further 172 km of the
planned Libyan rail network. Work on the line from Tripoli to
Ras Ejder on the Tunisian border is scheduled to take 54 months.
In 2008 CRCC was awarded contracts worth 3·2bn dinars to
construct a 352 km line between Al Khums and Surt by 2013, and a
line running 800 km from iron ore deposits at Wadi Shati near
Sabha to the port of Misratah by 2012.
Last August Russian Railways formally began work on US$4·5bn
contract to build a 554 km section parallel to the coast between
Surt and Banghazi; an extension to Egypt is planned.

Libyan investments in Egypt will be increased to 10 billion dollars.

The preparatory meetings
of the ministerial committee concerning joint
investment between Libya and Egypt started in
Tripoli. It aims to set mechanism to increase
the Libyan investments in Egypt to 10 billion
dollars in 2009.. Qatar news agency stated that
the volume of Libyan investments in Egypt was
increased by 32% during the previous two years.
The number of Libyan companies working in Egypt
reached 236 companies in different fields in
addition to 9 Egyptian investment companies
working presently in Libya. Volume of trade
exchange between the two countries is expected
to increase to two billion dollars

Secretary of GPC: Libyan-Tunisian integration achieved joint projects.

The Secretary of the General People's Committee noted
that the trade exchange between both brotherly countries
reached 2.2 billion of dinars during a short period of
the current year, which exceeded the specified value by
10%; and that this value is expected to hit 2.5 billion
by the end of this year.
The Secretary added there are teams working in the areas
of education, trade, investment and other different
areas to boost bilateral integration between both
courtiers, where it was agreed to follow-up trade
activities through non-official crossings, and to set up
a committee consisting of the public security and
customs to watch good, prevent smuggling and ease
measures of goods and commodities transport.
On the other hand, the Secretary announced other
procedures taken to increase integration between both
countries, including broadening the Libyan investments
in Tunisia during last year, where it reached around 1.5
billion of dinars.
He said several Tunisian investors had started
investment projects in Great Jamahiriya that would be
achieved in the coming phase. |

It
was signed in Madrid the Capital of Spain on the meetings of the
fifth cycle of the joined Libyan and Spanish committee to support
the Economic, Trade and financial relations. The Spanish side
explained its desire to continue the cooperation with the Libyan
side by executing some projects as they signed many notes to support
the cooperation relations between Libya & Spain and they signed 8
understanding notes about Energy, Water Desalination and Health
Drainage. The above notes included the investment, employment,
Maintenance, Transferring Knowledge, qualification, Training and
building abilities in all these aspects; they also signed an
understanding note for investment in the production of electricity,
employment, management, maintenance, transferring knowledge and
building |
First Conference on construction in desert areas kicked off in Sabha.

The First Conference on Construction in the Desert Areas
kicked off today at the House of Culture in the city of
Sahbha
The conference is organized by Faculty of Engineering
Science and Technology, in collaboration of Management
Centers Developing Authority, Public Utility and Housing
Authority and the Social Economic Development Fund.
The Chairman of the Conference's Scientific Committee
explained the idea of holding the conference is in line
with execution of housing and infrastructure projects in
Great Jamahiriya in General and in Fezzan in particular.
The conference will discuss issues relevant to
construction in the desert environment, including the
most recent ways to maintain the concrete establishments
and routes, and geotechnical engineering.
During the conference, several research papers will be
presented to discuss building design in the desert
environment and the materials suitable for such
environment. |
Oman, Libya Sign $500M JV Deal.

The Sultanate of Oman and Libya have signed a $500 million deal
to establish a joint investment company to be based in Tripoli.
The company will invest in economic, real estate, tourism,
industrial, service and energy projects and will also set up
joint stock companies to undertake different projects, according
to a joint statement.The State General Reserve Fund will
represent Oman in the Oman-Libya Investment Holding Company. |
Sacyr awarded $400 mln urbanization works.

Spain's Sacyr Vallehermoso group through its unit Svlidco has
won the bid for urbanization work in the Libyan town of El Beida
worth 400 million euros, a company statement said Friday. Svlidco, in which Sacyr holds a 60 percent stake and a body
controlled by the Libyan government holds 40 percent, will carry
out the work over a 2,700-hectare surface. The project included
the construction of the networks of public utilities for
telephone, natural gas, drinking water and the sewerage system,
electricity and lighting, street paving and sidewalks. The
project awarded to the company owned by Luis del Rivero was part
of a plan of infrastructure investments worth more than 50
billion euroes, set up by the government of Libya, one of the
world's main oil and gas producers. |
Libyan company for Iron and steel: 238 million dinars surplus activity.

General Association for a Libyan company for Iron and Steel held regular
meeting this year on Sunday in Tripoli.
The meeting was included by the Secretary of General People's Committee,
head of general association for company, secretariat’s members of the
General People's committee for planning, and manpower, training and
operational, and financial and industry and minerals, and the economy,
trade and investment charge, the governor of the Central Bank of Libya. |
